The building opened in January 2015, to complement services provided in the main hospital. A medical education centre on the top floor enables the Trust to provide first class training facilities for junior doctors and other staff, including a 100-seat lecture theatre, break-out rooms and clinical training rooms. A ground-floor coffee shop gives visitors the chance to relax before appointments.

Access to the Sid Watkins Building is easiest from the Longmoor Lane entrance to the Aintree University Hospital site.
